By acquiring Ivy Animal Health, a Kansas-based privately held pharmaceutical company, Eli Lilly and Co., plans to boost its animal health division.

After the acquisition, Ivy will be an operating unit of Elanco Animal Health (a division of Eli Lilly). Last year, Elanco brought in $875.5 million in revenue, a small portion of Lilly’s total of $15.7 billion.

Ivy’s principal products are beef cattle growth promoting products. The company also maintains a database on nutritional and health information for more than 60 million animals.

Ivy will continue to operate from its Overland Park, Kansas, location after the deal closes, according to Lilly.
