Dutch investors dream of pigs on airfield

21-03-2007 | |

Dutch investors are hoping to get permission to build a 80,000 pig farm on a former airfield in the German state of Sachsen-Anhalt.

The investors hope to construct the farm between the towns of Cobbel and Mahlwinkel.

However, last weekend residents protested against the plans, being afraid to be confronted with negative consequences for the area’s environment and agriculture.

More expansion
It is not the only place in Germany where pig expansion is being planned.

Near the town of Allstedt, on the border of the states of Sachsen-Anhalt and Thüringen, similar plans exist for the future of a former military airfield zone.
