The Netherlands was the European Union’s biggest exporter of piglets and finishers in 2005.
The Dutch took care of almost 45% of all piglet exports within the EU. In finishers, the export percentage was 34%.
These figures appear from data created by the statistical service of Eurostat – having no data about last year yet.
According to Eurostat approximately 6.8 million piglets were transported from one country to another within the EU. Dutch exporters took care of 44.7% of these – the Danes were runners-up, transporting about 40%.
Total finisher transports were 7.9 million animals within the EU, of which the Dutch, as mentioned, exported 34%.
