Danish pig producers increased the use of antibiotics by 12% percent during the first six months of this year, according to a report by the Danish Technical University.
The report states that this increase is the result of more young pigs on units during the first half of the year as a result of a 6-7% increase in sow numbers.
During 2008 and during the first six months of this year there was a decrease in the use of ‘critical’ antibiotics – those that are important for the treatment of humans.
