Denmark exports more pigs

10-03-2009 | |

In January 2009 Denmark exported around 564,000 pigs into the EU, which is 25% more than in the same period last year, said German statistical service ZMP.

The export is remarkable since the number of Danish sow is going to be lower in the first quarter of 2009 compared to the last quarter of 2008. All together Danish pig numbers have decreased with almost 3% to 12.2 million.

Due to poor financial results pig farmers lower the number of pigs in their operations. The Danish pig sector is suffering from the economic crisis. Exports to Eastern Europe, Russia, Japan and South Korea are on the decline.
