Danish pig breeders facing higher feed costs

The Danish Prig Producers group has stated that Farmers in Denmark are currently facing a surge in grain prices.

Feed takes up two-thirds production costs in Denmark. “It’s a chaotic situation as many pig farmers are already in debt,” said chairman of the producers’ group Henrik Mortensen.

“Meat prices will also go up, but there’s always a delay of some months, which means that farmers have to rely on the mercy of their banks,” he added

The country rears 27 million pigs annually of which each pig has to be fed 200 kg wheat and barley along with soy products.
