Danish crown swine fever concerns

23-03-2009 | |

A slaughterhouse of Danish Crown in Horsens, Denmark was closed temporarily following fears that a pig sent to slaughter may have been suffering from swine fever.

Tests were carried out on the pig originating from a farm near Århus.©The slaughter house closed for a total of 5 hours before reopening.

Swine fever is not dangerous to humans, but confirmation of the disease could seriously affect Denmark’s multi-billion pork exports. Although swine fever fears in Denmark are relatively frequent the country has not seen an outbreak of the disease since 1933.
