The pig unit of Zimbabwean Colcom Holdings’ expanded by 4% during last year ending 30 June.
The unit contributed 48% to the company’s profits and boosted exports to Namibia, which grew 4% in the last quarter. The company is also expected to benefit from firming regional prices.
Altogether, Colcom recorded a turnover growth of 700% to €8.2 million.
The group said it embarked on a restructuring exercise in 2005, creating autonomous business units benefiting from synergies. These include pigs, ostrich, cattle, pies, sales and distribution, corporate treasury as well as the Freddy Hirsh chain.
