Cargill: Dedication to animal health and welfare in Canada

29-12-2011 | |

There has been recent certification of two Cargill Value Added Meats Canada employees as professional animal handling auditors by the Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization, Inc. (PAACO).

PAACO auditors are trained and certified on farm, transportation and processing plant animal welfare and handling. This knowledge serves to promote the humane treatment of animals.

“Ensuring we maintain the highest standards in animal welfare is simply the right thing to do, said Rob Wreyford, Cargill’s director of Quality Systems and Innovation. “It is very unique to have two of our employees trained to this highest qualification. It goes to show how serious we take our animal welfare responsibilities”.

Cargill Value Added Meat’s Simon Nutter, Primary Processing Department manager is now PAACO certified for poultry. His colleague Brian Groten is PAACO certified for beef, pork and lamb, and also has received training from noted animal welfare advocate Dr. Temple Grandin.
