Californian pork promotion targets Chinese

The Pork Checkoff has partnered with Swift Natural Pork, Lucky Supermarkets and Save Mart stores to carry out pork promotions in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

“Chinese New Year is huge on the West Coast,” said Rick O’Fallon, retail marketing manager, western division, for the National Pork Board.

“Between San Francisco and Sacramento, one of America’s largest Asian populations resides and pork has long been a staple ingredient in Asian cuisine.”

Pork specials will appear this month in more than 200 Lucky Supermarkets in the Sacramento area and Save Mart stores in the Bay Area.

In addition, a competition has been organised with prizes including a stay at San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel, dinner at Tommy Toy’s restaurant in San Francisco’s Chinatown and VIP seating at the Chinese New Year parade on February 23.

“Every year, our pork sales exceed the previous year when we sponsor Chinese New Year promotions, and we expect strong results in 2008,” commented O’Fallon.
