Wesley Mendonca Batista will become president, CEO and a director for Swift & Co after the completion of the company’s sale to the Brazilian company J&F Participacoes.

He will replace Sam B. Rovit, who has been president, CEO and a director for Swift since July 2005.

Rovit said, “I am very proud of Swift’s achievements over the past two years, namely the dramatic improvement in our US beef business while maintaining our industry leading positions in US pork and Australian beef.”

I am confident that Wesley and the entire JBS/Swift team can collectively take the company to the next level as a leading global provider of beef and pork.”

Controlling interest
J&F has a controlling interest in JBS, Latin America’s largest beef processor. JBS is the maker of Brazil’s Friboi meat brand. JBS has 21 facilities in Brazil and five plants in Argentina.

The company had $1.9 billion in sales during fiscal 2006. The acquisition will create the world’s largest meatpacking firm.
