Australian pig prices driven 10c/kg higher

01-10-2007 | |

According to a report from Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), pig prices have increased by up to AUD 0.10 (€0.06) per kg (carcass weight) in Southern Australia, New South Wales (NSW) and Queensland.

This increase only slightly affected the average trends in NSW and Queensland as the new prices were not at the top end of the scale. According to MLA, Southern Australia did report a lift in its top bacon price.

In Victoria and WA, prices remained in general unchanged. Sow rates were reported to have weakened in Victoria as excess supplies are in storage.

This increase in sow turn-off results from the drying season and higher feed costs.
