Australia: Pig farmers pushing for imported pork restrictions

It has been reported that NSW Farmers’ Association is putting pressure on Federal Government to limit pork imports coming into Australia.

Competing with pork being imported are concerning pork producers.

Marketing not enough
Australian Pork Limited has created a ‘Pork Mark’ that state to consumers what is 100% Australian pork.

However chairman of the NSW Farmers’ Association’s pork committee, Malcolm Gett, has stated that better marketing isn’t enough. “There’s still record volumes of imports coming in. It would be nice to be able to slow that down somehow or other,” he adds.

It is reported that 2.6 million pork is imported weekly into Australia.
