Americas looking for eradication of Classical Swine Fever by 2020

A group of nineteen countries in the Americas has been meeting in Pereira, Columbia last week (16-17 July) to discuss how to eradicate Classical Swine Fever by 2020.

Earlier this year, the countries vowed to do so by 2020 at an earlier meeting in Guatemala.

Key of the meeting was to find out how to speed up and improve the plan, created in 2000, to eradicate the disease.

Until 2011, it looked like the countries had succeeded to eradicate CSF in Central America, as well as in the southern part of Latin America, also called the Southern Cone. In the beginning of 2012, however, three new outbreaks were reported from Guatemala.
