African swine fever has claimed more than 3,000 pigs in the Northwestern province of Zambia.
In the districts of Solwezi, Kasempa, Mufumbwe and Kabompo, the disease has been recorded, according to provincial agriculture coordinator, Charles Sondashi.
Measures have since been put in place to restrict movement of pigs and pork products outside the province and from one district to another within the province.
“Veterinary officers are still on the ground carrying out the massive vaccination supported by the Zambian government and the European Union/Food and Agricultural Organisation.”
