The disinfectant Virocid, manufactured by Cid Lines, has been successfully tested against Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea virus (PEDv).
The tests were performed at a laboratory that is accredited by the US Environmental Protecion Agency (EPA).
The tests were performed at a dilution rate of 1:400, equalling 1/3 oz/gal or 0.25 % or 2.5 ml/litre. These dilution rates are relatively low, making the disinfectant an economical solution.
The disinfectant has bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal and sporicidal properites, is versatile in its usage, active at all temperaturs and is effective in hard water.
PEDv is a coronavirus that infects the cells lining the small intestine of a pig, causing PED, a condition of severe diarrhoea and dehydration. Older hogs mostly get sick and lose weight after being infected, whereas newborn piglets usually die within five days of contracting the virus.
