Ukraine proposes creation of commission to stop ASF

Ukraine has initiated the creation of a trilateral commission with Russia and Belarus to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF), a spokesperson for the Committee on Economic Cooperation of the Ukrainian-Russian Interstate Commission in Kaluga reported.

“Ukraine is concerned about the ASF problem, since cases have been registered in Russia and Belarus, while Ukraine has taken measures. The creation of a trilateral emergency commission on preventing the spread of ASF will be considered,” he said.

According to a recent Rosselhoznadzor report, ASF keeps spreading in Russia despite the harsh pre-emptive measures the authorities have been taking. So far outbreaks have been registered in 15 regions of the country. The authorities have declared a comprehensive policy of eliminating pig-breeding at private household-run farms and old livestock farms unable to guarantee the proper level of protection.

It is assumed that within the new commission Russian veterinary specialists could share its experience on how combat ASF along with Ukraine and Belarus.
