It has been over three years since the last outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in South Korea, but now the country has confirmed that the disease has been discovered again at a hog farm in Uiseong county, North Gyeongsang.
Three years ago, thousands of pigs and cows were slaughtered due to FMD. Currently about 600 pigs have been slaughtered, according to The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
This comes just two months after South Korea was declare FMD-free, which was announced in May at a meeting of the World Organisation for Animal Health in Paris, France.
Currently areas in a 15-kilometer (nine-mile) radius of the farm are under strict quarantine as a preventative measure.
