All pig stock of more than 57 000 animals will be culled at LLC Lasarevskoye pig farm in the Tula region because of the recent African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak, according to a report by head of Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselhoznadzor, Alexei Alexeenko.
On January 30 Rosselhoznadzor announced a possible outbreak of ASF in LLC Lasarevskoye, Shchekinsky district, Tula region, and a couple days later the preliminary diagnosis was confirmed during laboratory tests.
According to recent reports more than 300 pigs have been found dead at the company, but the total losses will be higher. Rosselhoznadzor has stated the farm has been quarantined.
“It was decided that all of the pig population would be destroyed in the complex – a total volume of about 57 000. The carcasses of dead animals will be burnt,” said Alexeenko.
LLC Lasarevskoye is the largest pork production enterprise of the Tula region. Annually the company supplies the market with more than 10 000 tonnes of pork – about 77% of the total volume of the pork market of the whole Tula region.
