Scientists from Russia and the US will be working together on a vaccine against African Swine Fever (ASF).
The first testing of the new drug that already has been developed is scheduled for November, reported Professor, director of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Veterinary Virology and Microbiology in the Vladimir Region Denis 0Kolbasov, according to the Russian media Trend.
“Work on a vaccine against ASF has been conducted by specialists from almost all countries of the world for over 40 years. The main problem in that area is that the resources, especially the material, are limited in all countries, so it has been decided to unite in a global alliance to study the biology of the ASF virus and the development the tools and methods of its control. The association includes Russia, US, UK, Spain, Germany, and a number of African countries, ” said Kolbasov.
In the framework of international co-operation, the Russian Scientific Research Institute of Veterinary Virology and Microbiology, together with University of Illinois is working on the ASF vaccine. “We already have preliminary results and November is scheduled for the first tests on animals,” said the professor.
