Russia and Ireland discuss ASF issues
At the IX Session of Russian/Irish Intergovernmental Committee on Business cooperation Development and the Working Group for Cooperation in Agriculture in Dublin, Ireland, recently, the two nations discussed issues relating to African Swine Fever (ASF).
The parties discussed the measures taken by the national authorities in relation to the registration of African swine fever outbreaks in the EU territory.
The Irish party informed their Russian colleagues about the measures taken to prevent the introduction and spread of the disease in its territory. In particular extra measures were taken to prevent and control the disease, the awareness campaign was carried out among farmers and veterinary practitioners and information letters were distributed.
Special restrictive measures in relation to deliveries of pork products from Lithuania and Poland were not taken at the national level. In accordance with the EU legislation the veterinary authorities of the EU countries which are subject to restrictions are responsible for the product ban control.
The Rosselkhoznadzor’s (Russia Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) representative informed the Irish party that the solution of the EU regionalisation issue and harmonisation of veterinary certificates should be carried out between the European Union Commission and Eurasian Economic Commission.
