In this 74th episode of the Real P3 podcast, Dr Casey Bradley speaks to nutritionists Dr David Rosero and Dr Nick Shelton about using dried distillers’ grain with solubles (DDGS) in swine nutrition.
Shelton, a consulting nutritionist for NutriQuest, gives his perspective on what the current distillers market looks like, and touches highlights the challenges with availability and the importance of looking at what grains specifically suit a particular operation.
Rosero, a nutritionist for the Hanor Company, speaks about how to evaluate and determine how much DDGS to use, and what source, and how to go about making those decisions while keeping an eye on the performance changes of the pigs.
Shelton and Rosero talk about ratios and the feasibility of using DDSGs in pig feed, sustainability, feed efficiency, concerns of using DDGS in swine rations, and discuss mycotoxins, variability in digestibility (specifically in terms of amino acids), and logistics challenges. Also, Bradley asks what we need to do to further utilise DDGS, and Shelton and Rosero highlight some opportunities.
