The Russian veterinary authorities have reported three outbreaks of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) in Amurskaya oblast, where wild boars were affected, according to a report by Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselhoznadzor.
According to the report all outbreaks took place at the end of March. On 3 April, a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test was conducted at the Government Budget Institution, Primorskaya Interregional Veterinary Laboratory. The test confirmed the presence of the Classical Swine Fever virus.
In the first outbreak, the wild boar’s carcass was found near Novogeorgievka village. In the second outbreak, the wild boars were shot near Gribovka village. In the last outbreak, the wild boar was shot near Domikan. All animals were sampled for Classical Swine Fever.
According to the report, the source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive. Russian vets are currently considering all risks to decide what number of pig stock should be vaccinated in order to prevent the further spread of the disease.
