Classical Swine Fever in Latvia

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has reported that Classical Swine Fever is present in Latvia.

On 16 November, two wild boar organ samples tested positive for CSF virus genome with CSF specific qRT-PCR (Hoffmann, 2005) in OIE Reference Laboratory for CSF.

This is a reoccurrence, as antibodies of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) were found during CSF state surveillance programme in wild boars on 15 October 2012. Since 18 October measures regarding epidemiological investigation have been in force around the area where seropositive wild boars were detected.

No cullings occurred and the source of the outbreak in unknown.
