ASF found near Moscow, Russia
A new outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) has been reported in the Moscow region, in the Sergiev Posad district, according to Rosselkhoznadzor.
According to preliminary information, as a result of this outbreak 30 pigs will be culled. The causative agent of ASF has been identified during a study by the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Veterinary Virology and Microbiology, Rosselkhoznadzor said.
Currently, at the farm where the outbreak has been detected Veterinary Specialists of the Moscow region is working under Rosselkhoznadzor for the city of Moscow and Tula regions. All priority actions to eliminate the further risk of the virus are being undertaken.
In Moscow, in mid-July the areas was quarantined after the discovery ASF in the Volokolamsk and Lohotninski areas. Later the outbreak was detected in the Klin district. According to Rosselkhoznadzor, the ASF virus was found in Moscow due to migrating wild boars from the Tver region. During 2013 because of quarantine measures against ASF in the Moscow region, already 400 pigs have been culled.
