Dr John McGlone is a professor of Animal Science at Texas Tech University. As Institutional Official he oversees animal care programmes including veterinarians and animal care staff at Texas Tech University. Dr McGlone also leads the Laboratory of Animal Behaviour, Physiology and Welfare at Texas Tech University. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Animal Science from Washington State University and his Ph.D. (1981) from the University of Illinois. He started Farm Animal Care Training and Auditing (www.factallc.com) in 2002 which provides science-based, professional animal welfare auditing to millions of animals each year and has since joined with Frost (a leading accounting firm that provides services to animal agriculture; (www.frostpllc.com) to expand those services. In January, 2010, he and Janice Swanson co-chaired the revision to the Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Teaching and Research, a Federation of Animal Science Societies publication that included 62 authors. Dr McGlone also chairs the FASS Animal Care Committee. He is vice chairman of the board of trustees for the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International where he has conducted site visits and served on the board for nearly 2 decades. For over 30 years and through hundreds of scientific publications Dr McGlone has studied innovative ways to manage farm animal behaviour and improve their welfare.
